The format and wipe operations work only on external devices like camera,thumb drive etc., use the Drive drop down list to choose the drive that you want to format and wipe. The refresh button will refresh the list of available drives, should you insert a removable media during execution of the program.

The format option will re-initialize the file system on your drive. If you have a removable media that is corrupt formatting can make the media usable again. Formatting does not destroy data on the media, but it does make it not available to other programs. However an advanced scan can still recover files even after you format your media as long as you have not overwritten the areas with new data/images.

The Wipe option overwrites the entire drive with blank data. The file system areas are also overwritten. In the case of corruption or a non-working card this allows the card to be recognized and formatted again. Use the Wipe Option after filling your card to wipe old data off of the card.

By Checking the Enable Secure Delete option you activate MediaRECOVER to work in your windows file explorer. It will offer a new option when you right click a file. A "Secure Delete" enables you to destroy files on your system in such a way that they are completely destroyed an cannot be recovered by ANY means.
